Ensuring Reliable Power System Protection
Your protective relays are the first line of defense against electrical faults, equipment damage, and system failures.
ClarkTE provides comprehensive protection and control services to keep your electrical system safe and reliable.
Protective relay testing, settings, and NERC PRC-005
Protective relay testing verifies that the device protecting your transformer, generator, motor, or feeder will actually trip within the time and at the current set in its relay-settings file. ClarkTE performs commissioning (acceptance) testing on new relays per ANSI/NETA ATS, periodic maintenance testing per ANSI/NETA MTS, and the documented testing required for NERC PRC-005 compliance on bulk-electric-system protection.
Behind every relay test is a settings calculation. We model the system in SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower; calculate fault currents at every bus; coordinate the time-current curves across multiple devices so the smallest fault clears at the lowest level; and produce a PE-stamped settings sheet your auditor can defend. Whether the device is a 1980s electromechanical relay due for changeout or a modern SEL or GE microprocessor relay, we test what we set, set what we calculated, and prove the chain of evidence in writing.
